It seemed the Oscars organisers would get back to basics after last years desperate attempt to attract a younger audience.

But perhaps they are not giving up yet, as they have just released a hilarious trailer about the upcoming event that features Transformers stars Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox.

The pair are sent on a 'quest to find a legend,' and following an Indiana Jones-style globetrotting trek, they are finally reunited with the ceremony's perennial host Billy Crystal.

SCROLL DOWN FOR TRAILER...

The cheesy Funny or Die produced video stars with Josh telling his Charlie's Angels style boss: 'They say he went off the grid.'

However this does not impress his superior, who is played by hunky William Fichtner, who tells him: 'Just bring him to me.'

The video's dynamic duo are then boarding trains and planes, before being seen in an exotic bar talking to a hardman bar owner played by Vinnie Jones.

The former Wimbledon hatchetman tells them: 'How do you find a phantom? Try going to the furthest location on earth.'

And when he realises the confused thespians have no idea what he is talking about, he adds: 'He's in Mongolia. Geez!'

Soon they are sharing a boat with a mysterious ferryman, who bears more than a striking resemblance to Mork and Mindy favourite Robin Williams.

He tells them: 'Some say he doesn't want to be found, others say he died 10 years ago. If you ask me that's a lot of cuckoo talk.

'It's obvious he transformed into a yeti.'

Despite this revelation they are soon talking to a mysterious long haired figure, who turns out to be none other than the City Slickers star himself.

When Megan Fox explains they 'come on behalf of an old friend,; and shows him an Oscar statue he nonplussed star tells them: 'You could have just texted.'

No doubt Megan will be hoping the high profile appearance will help kick start a career that has stalled after a series of flops.

The staff at the Academy of of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences were very excited by the trailer.

Marketing officer Christina Kounelias said: 'We wanted to try something a little bit different this year instead of a traditional, clip-based piece.

'The trailer has a fun twist that conveys how excited everyone is to have Billy back.'

No doubt the When Harry Met Sally star is also looking forward to his ninth Oscars, after stepping in to replace Eddie Murphy.

The Trading Places actor stepped down in protest after his friend Brett Ratner was forced to resign as producer.

It followed outrage after he jokingly used an offensive term for homosexuals last November, telling shock jock Howard Stern: 'Rehearsing is for f**s.'

Funny Or Die's president of production Mike Farah said: Our team had a great time working with the Academy and joining forces with Billy again.

'We think the trailer really speaks to the excitement around this year’s Oscars®, and Funny Or Die was honored to be a part of it.'
