Milan to NYFW: Slim Down!
(NEW YORK) If Milan's Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) has its way, NYFW will be paring down in length while packing in its shows, starting in 2013.Milan has responded to the CFDA’s efforts two weeks ago to meet midway, more or less, on the scheduling mores across the spectrum of fashion weeks globally. The CFDA’s concession, as offered on November 17, was to allow Milan its desired dates for the Spring ’13 shows in September 2012 by holding NYFW a week earlier, from September 6 to 13—provided the MFW-tailored dates were the singular exception, with the promise to return to the prior schedule in the future.
In a statement released yesterday, the CNMI has agreed to NYFW's one-time-only dates for the September 2012 shows. Thus, the scheduling kinks have been massaged out for the near future, with the dates for the Spring '13 shows amenable to all fashionistas involved.
But of course, that would be far too simple, now, wouldn’t it? Firstly, the CNMI is roping in Paris’ fashion powers that be at the Federation Française de la Mode to commit to the compromised terms for 2012, and agreeing to consistently show once Milan has concluded in future seasons. But the big shocker on CNMI’s agenda: Milan wants NYFW to relinquish its final, eighth day on the schedule, in order to allow London to start earlier.
The CFDA and BFC are currently reviewing Milan’s latest demands.
