Are you really going out dressed like that, Mum? Lourdes keeps her head down as Madonna, 53, mimics her teenage look
You could be forgiven for forgetting they are mother and daughter with an age gap of 38 years.
Because Madonna seems to be continuing her quest to remain forever young as she strolled through New York’s JFK airport with her family to celebrate Christmas.
Arriving on Friday with her eldest daughter, Lourdes, 15, the 53-year-old opted for baggy black tracksuit trousers, with a black hoodie and fingerless biker gloves.
Oh mother! Madonna dresses in a rather immature manner as she accompanies daughter Lourdes at JFK Airport in New York
Looking more like a member of a teenage girlband, she completed her dressed-down look with a wooly hat, black and white patterned scarf the obligatory sunglasses as she smiled for waiting photographers.
Not wishing to be outdone by her famous mother, Lourdes added her own sense of fashion to the occasion, wearing navy tights, denim jacket, black, white and red scarf and a bizarre pair of white-rimmed sunglasses.
It is no wonder the pair wore matching outfits – they launched their own joint fashion line, Material Girl, last year aimed at the teenage market.
Rolling back the years: The 53-year-old dressed like somebody less than half her age
It was at the launch of the collection last year where Madonna met her current boyfriend Brahim Zaibat, who was also with her at the airport.
The 24-year-old French toyboy was a dancer at the launch when the pair hit it off.
Madonna told him that they had compatible star signs and soon after they were spotted getting intimate while out and about on London’s clubbing scene.
That's more like it: Madonna dressed more sensibly earlier in the week while Lourdes remained as stylish as ever
On Friday he also went for the casual look, sporting a Red Bull t-shirt, perhaps his energy drink of choice to keep up with his famously energetic partner.
They were joined by Madonna’s six-year-old adopted daughter Mercy James, who she adopted from Malawi in 2009.
Yesterday the group were not only celebrating Christmas, but it was also the fifth day of the Jewish festival Chanukah.
Madonna is a follower of Kabbalah – an offshoot of Judaism – and she is expected to visit the religion’s New York centre while she is in the city.
New movie project: W.E. stars Abbie Cornish, Oscar Isaac, Richard Coyle, James D'Arcy and Andrea Riseborough
During the holidays she is set to raise a glass to the success of her new film W.E. which she directed.
The film is an historical biopic about the love affair between Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, although early reviews have been critical of the singer’s directing.
Recently she admitted turning to her ex-husbands Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie for advice.
She said: ‘I talked to Sean about making the film, and he’s always been supportive of me. I gave the screenplay to Guy and shared the concepts and the stories and the ideas with him because he was interested in it from a historical point of view.
‘They never really gave me specific advice about telling the story, but Guy would give me technical advice about cameras or using digital versus film or one cinematographer being better than another - just technical things.’
