Looking at the new promotional shots of former X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson, you could be forgiven for thinking there's something slightly odd about them.
Upon closer inspection, it appears that mixed race singer Rebecca's skin has been digitally lightened, and the Liverpudlian star is almost unrecognisable from her usual appearance.
What's happened to Rebecca? X Factor singer Ferguson has sparked rumours she has had her skin lightened in these new promo shots
A spokesperson for the singer said it was just the way the photos had been lit which made Rebecca's skin look lighter.
But the singer's appearance in all of the photos has considerably lightened her already fair complexion.
Contrast: Rebecca's skin is completely bleached white in the unflattering promotional shots compared to her stunning natural complexion
Last year Elle magazine was at the centre of controversy after lightening Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's skin on their cover.
And singer Beyonce was visibly lightened in adverts for cosmetic company L'Oreal.
At the time TV presenter Mica Paris told the Daily Mail: 'This has to be the ultimate insult to every black woman out there - Beyonce included. It is suggesting that in order to be beautiful and appealing, she needs to be white.'

The new photographs come as Rebecca promotes her debut solo single Nothing's Real But Love and her album Heaven, due out on 5th December.
Talking about her talent in a recent interview with the Daily Mail's You magazine, Rebecca said: 'I think my voice is a gift – I was born with it, I didn’t have to earn it and I think when you are given that gift and you achieve success because of it you’ve got to give back.
'If I do have the success that people are predicting then I would like to use any influence or power I might have to do something to help people.
'I really admire Angelina Jolie – she is a prime example of using her influence to make a positive change for other people.'
Rebecca shot to fame when she appeared on The X Factor last year, narrowly missing out on winning the contest to Matt Cardle in the final.
Referring to how her life has changed since the show, mother-of-two Rebecca told Stylist magazine: 'I've grown so much as a person. Not just as a performer but I've become stronger. I think I was naive to the world - a bit too innocent.
'I came down to London from Liverpool, away from my family and friends, and it just opened up my eyes about life and really made me grow up quick. I'd never been away from them like that.'
