She plays an oddball computer hacker, covered in piercing and tattoos but tonight Rooney Mara looked as far away from Lisabeth Sander as could be.
The 26-year-old actress wowed the crowd as she stepped out onto the red carpet tonight showing off her figure in a sheer cutout LBD, flashing plenty of flesh.
The dramatic dress by Prabal Gurung ensured all eyes were focused firmly on Rooney as she made her way to the New York premiere of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Sheer delight: Rooney Mara looked stunning in her cutaway and sheer dress as she arrived on the red carpet for the New York premiere of the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Rooney teamed the detailed ensemble, which boasted a flowing skirt and caped sleeves in sheer material, with a slicked back hairstyle, highlighting her delicate features. Her hairstyle hid the short blunt fringe she has been sporting of late and the effect was much softer and more feminine.
While most of the dress was made in sheer lace the actress had her modesty covered by black material and adding a colour flash with bright red lips.
Feminine and floaty: The dress showed off her figure to perfection and needed little by way of accessories
Double trouble: Rooney and her co-star Daniel Craig posed for pictures on the red carpet together outside the Ziegfeld Theater

Daniel, 43, looked dapper in his well-cut navy suit, a crisp white shirt and a matching navy tie.

It appears that Rooney can't get enough of the cutout style and was seen sporting a black suit with panels missing in Stockholm yesterday and on Monday the actress attended the London premiere in a stunning white backless gown.
Meanwhile joining Rooney on the red carpet tonight, Joely Richardson looked lovely in an ivy green shift dress while Embeth Davidtz donned a pink and black print dress.
Dressing for the mood? Megan Everett and actor Stellan Skarsgard, Taraji P. Henson and Michael Michele all worn dark ensembles for the screening
Sisterly support: Rooney's sister Kate stepped out in a peach chiffon dress which she wore to devastating effect
Not only did Mara dye and cut her hair and have her eyebrows bleached, she also had her ears pierced several times, along with her lip, nose and the nipple piercing.
In an interview with Allure magazine, the 25-year-old explains that she went through with the painful ordeal to really embody the role of computer-hacker, and often naked, Lisabeth Sander.
'I’m naked quite a lot in the movie, and I thought, she has it in the book, and she should have it [in the movie],' she told the publication.
Green envy: Joely Richardson donned an ivy green shift dress while Embeth Davidtz donned a pink and black print dress
'It just felt like a good one to get - a necessary one to get.'
On the subject of nakedness, Mara added that she had no qualms about stripping off.
Cut out Queen: Rooney can't get enough of the cut out style and was seen wearing two similar outfits, in Stockholm yesterday, middle, and at the London premiere on Monday, right
What a transformation: The actress was seen leaving a taping of the Late Show With David Letterman looking red carpet ready but had arrived looking much more casual
The carefree actress also said that she wasn't worried about lopping off her long locks, nor wearing a more masculine wardrobe, which she says has now translated into her own current style .
'People always ask, "Were you crying when they cut your hair?’ And it didn’t freak me out at all. I was really happy to do it,' she said.
Transformation: Mara went through a huge transformation for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, including several piercings, bleached eyebrows and a short hair cut
While Rooney has been opening up about her physical transformation her co-star Daniel Craig has been discussing their adaptation of the Stieg Larsson novel and told parents the film is not suitable for children.
Craig, who plays an investigative journalist who finds himself on the trail of a vicious serial killer in the film, said in an interview with BBC Breakfast that the close-to-the-mark scenes in the film were true to the themes of violence against women in Larsson's novel.
He explained: 'It is addressing a huge issue that serial killers on the whole are male and they kill women. It is an adult movie.

'This is one where you pay the babysitter - babysitters are going to make a lot of money out of this, I hope. Don't take the kids!'
Comfortable: Mara, see here naked from the waist up in the clutches of co-star Daniel Craig for a promotional poster for the film, said she had no qualms about stripping off for the movie
The 43-year-old actor - who works out regularly to maintain his toned physique - admitted he didn't mind skipping the gym to play journalist Mikael Blomkvist in David Fincher's Hollywood remake of the Swedish-language thriller.
He said: 'It was very easy actually. I just wanted to look as normal as I possibly could so I just relaxed my exercise, and ate and drank what I wanted to.'
Partners-in-crime: Mara was joined by co-star Daniel Craig, who plays hacker Lisbeth Salander, at the world premiere of the film on Monday night
The film is a remake of the 2009 Swedish adaptation of the award-winning, critically acclaimed Millennium books trilogy.
The original starred Michael Nyqvist, who plays Blomkvist, and Noomi Rapace, as Salander, and was made into a trilogy and all three films were released within nine months.
The crew: Craig, Mara and Stellan Skarsgard posed inside the cinema with director David Fincher (far left) and writer Steven Zaillian (far right)
In keeping with the novel, the original is quite a dark and violent film and Fincher said he wasn't planning the softly-softly Hollywood approach for his version, which has been rated 18 in the UK and R in the U.S.
It is released in the U.S. on December 21 and in the UK on Boxing Day.
