Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman make their red-carpet debut as an engaged couple (and she makes sure to flash her sparkler)

Since getting engaged at the start of the week, Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman have been in their own little blissful bubble.
But the couple put on their finest last night to make their first red-carpet debut as an engaged couple.
The 29-year-old actress and her actor beau attended a gala dinner for Kennedy Center Honorees at the U.S. State Department in Washington.

She paired the looked with some platform satin stilettos and long leather clutch.
The Bride Wars star was also dripping in diamonds, wearing a choker necklace, studded earrings and a tennis bracelet.
But the most important sparkler of all was her the diamond engagement ring, which she received from Shulman when he got down on one knee last week to propose to the star.

Shulman, an actor and jewellery designer, collaborated with Kwiat Heritage Jewels to create the sparkling ring.
He looked equally dashing this evening, wearing a black tuxedo with skinny black tie.

The Kennedy Center Honors is an honor given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture.
Meryl was just one of many who was recognised.
The 62-year-old movie star was also joined by her husband Don Gummer and their 25-year-old daughter Grace for the special evening.
Meryl looked sophisticated in a plum long-sleeve gown.
Her daughter Grace, who is the splitting image of her famous mother, looked gorgeous in a black low-cut ensemble with dramatic ruffled sleeves.
Streep and Hathaway and were also joined by their other Devil Wear Prada star, Emily Blunt, who arrived on the arm of her husband John Krasinski.
The 28-year-old looked ravishing in a red high-neck gown with caplet sleeves and thin sash at the waist.
She also carried a black clutch much like Anne's.

The slender businesswoman, who posed with her Hollywood producer husband Harvery Weinstein on the red-carpet, opted for a black three-quarter length dress with sheer overlay adorned with floral diamante design, and netted detailing at the shoulders.
Another newly engaged couple present at the event was fellow honouree Neil Diamond, who was accompanied by his fiance Katie McNeil.

Other attendees included Broadway star Barbara Cook, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Grammy-winning American jazz tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins, who were all also honoured on the night.
Secretary Of State Hilary Clinton who preceded over the reception and dinner at the State Department, looked regal for her duties in a duck-egg blue gown with gold embroidered roses and matching caplet.
Also engaged: Honoree Neil Diamond was accompanied by his new fiance Katie McNeil, who is 29 years younger than the American singer

The pair quietly began dating in November 2008 but weren't pictured together until the following year.
‘He thought that I had a boyfriend andI thought that he had a girlfriend, so I thought that I’d better keep my distance because I didn’t want to be that girl’.
Shedescribes their union as more 'mellow' than her previous liaisons, adding: 'Mellow doesn't always make for a good story, but it makes for agood life.'

Her romance with Shulman followed a disastrous relationship with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri.
Shesplit up with him in 2008 when he was arrested on fraud charges after claiming links to the Pope while making dodgy deals, and he was later sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
