Lady Gaga has released a surprise holiday record, just in time for Thanksgiving.

And typically unafraid of causing consternation to conservative types, the 25-year-old has tinkered with classic festive tune, White Christmas.

The song, which is faithfully wheeled out each year and has brought joy to generations, was sung by Bing Crosby in the 1954 film of the same name.

But the Irving Berlin-penned words apparently aren't exciting enough for the Little Monsters, so Gaga has added her own.

Oddly for Gaga, they're strangely traditional and add little.

Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, added this verse: 'I’m dreaming of a white snow man, with a carrot nose and charcoal eyes.

'Oh and when he cries, I’m gonna tell him it’s ok, because Santa’s on his sleigh, and he’s on his way.'

It's all very uninspiring and Gaga could do well to look to one of her heroines, Kate Bush, who has released a festive album featuring a song about a love affair with a snowman, proving that at 53, she's still edgier than Gaga,,, and without the need of latex shoulders.

Cynics might suggest that the artist is simply cashing in by trying to make a beloved ditty her own with what seems like a hastily-penned addition.

Her fans will lap it up, whatever, and singer digitally released the four-track A Very Gaga Holiday on Wednesday.

She said of the added verse: 'As you can tell I'm very outgoing, I've decided that this song is too short, it's such a beautiful Christmas song but it's only one verse, so I added one extra one.'

The holiday album, which is currently on sale for $3.99 via Amazon and iTunes, also includes Orange Colored Sky, as well as You and I and Edge of Glory.

The superstar's ABC Thanksgiving special, A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, airs on the network tonight at 9:30.
